My wife had a fault claim with Hastings last year and I can't really fault the service. It was no bother at all.0

I only have car insurance as a legal requirement, if it wasn't I wouldn't bother so the cheapest every time.0

I've had experience of claims with several insurers, so I'll list them here. I'm not going to bother starring out the names either since all these stories are true.
Churchill: non-fault rear-ender claim, refused to authorise the repair for 3 months because they claimed I had not declared the car to be an import
Direct Line: Vandalism claim after someone dropped a brick off a tunnel parapet through my window. [snip] Overall though I was happy enough with Direct Line.
I've had a few other insurers over the years but have no experience of their claims process. After my experiences with Churchill and Equity Red Star, I went to Helphire the next two times I got rear-ended.
Of cause you do realise that Direct Line and Churchill are different brands of the same company?
With claims in particular there is always a significant element of the luck of the draw over the claims handler you happen to speak to/ get assigned to. Some companies are willing to pay staff more, have better training etc but even the best insurers have some duff staff and even the worst have some great staff that go beyond the standard.0 -
I've come to the conclusion that no matter which insurance company I use, if I have to claim I'm going to get screwed about. If it's a non faulter I will never involve my own insurance company.
Once you get into that mindset, you then just go for the cheapest. It happened to be Direct Line that year. They were also one of the few who would cover the car based on it's chassis number so that I could actually get the DVLA to register it.0 -
Markerstudy sold my car for salvage before I had chance to get my things from it and before they'd even agreed to pay me for it.
A quick threat of the ombudsman for the above quickly got their offer up to my cars actual value. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0
