Didn;t watch it, so made no comment whether they were poor or not.I don't understand why you would deny they were poor?
I simply made a point that there are very poor area in the world where the attitude is that they "strive" to better themselves instead of demand / depend on benefits:wall:
What we've got here is....... failure to communicate.
Some men you just can't reach.

I come from a very religious background. Quite honestly I seen nothing in religious people that distinquish them from anyone else - they are just as selfish/more selfish (you think chucking 50p on a plate once a week makes you a good person? ) and often bigoted to boot...A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step

John pier point, pony paddocks would count ( if no change of use to 'equestrian' though there is plenty of abuse of that), tennis courts would not count.
Thee are spot checks from rpa to confirm usuage and 'advise' on managment improvment. For example, I had a spot check two or three months after coming here.
Pony paddocks are diificult because if pushed horse owners could take it to eu and be made properly agricultural ( as we have been 'promised for years). This would formalise the not tiny numbers of meat animals in this country, by tightening up our passport situation, which would be frustration but beneficial for many horse peopl and level up the playin field between breeders of non throuroughly bred sports horse breeders ( tb studs already have a better taxation situation, while we breed world class eventers and the sports horses in this ountry, often at a loss).
many horse businesses have key part of farming diversification, when the are no longer treated as that then there is arguement there is more land for food production.. If food production is as profitable the farmers will swap themselves.0 -
You sound a right barrel of laughs. I'm sure it was better in the olden days.
More denial.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

I agree with you. The reference to 'godless' was not intended to recommend that everyone becomes a practicing Christian, or of any other organised religion. It was a reference to the fact that more and more people don't believe in anything at all, and apparently have no moral code as a result. Honesty and integrity are too often portrayed as a charter for losers, reasonable courtesy and consideration for others is often sacrificed on the altar of 'free expression', and community spirit has dwindled as more and more for example apparently do not have the time or inclination to even find out their next door neighbour's names or pass the time of day with them.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.

I am currently reading the 'Gangs of Manchester' about the first great industrial city in the 19th century, what is noticeable is that there is plenty of religion but not a lot of morality
It is actually still fairly safe to walk around in current times , I was surprised how lenient the punishments were in those days. 'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

Morality is more important than religious belief, and it's not just about crime but about conduction of life in general. Sure things were worse in the past, but we are should be going forwards, not backwards, in terms of civilisation.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. Just watched this program because of this thread. I have to say it did not change my opinion of these sorts of people one bit. They claimed to have no money yet copious amounts of fags and booze were consumed throughout the programe. Most of them (with the exception of one girl) seemed to lack and sort of motivation to make their lot better. How can anyone like this be helped it they wont help themselves?0

That is the absolute key political dichotomy that we face in this country. About half the population believes in helping those who try to help themselves -- equality of opportunity. The other half believes in helping anyone who asks for it -- equality of outcome.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
