Can I get my deposit back from dealer?

Today I paid £618.75 (£500 deposit plus 6mths tax) for an as yet unseen car but its stated to have the spec I want, right miles and in perfect condition. I strenuously haggled and was told by the manager that they couldn't go any lower as there'd be nothing in it for them. I had got the best price I could and a 5.5% finance deal. I am to go back to sign the final agreement next week, subject to inspection, when the car is delivered. They are getting it from a sister dealership in the same group.
I came straight home and looked online and found the exact car, same reg, for sale online by the sister dealership in the same group but for £1400 cheaper.
Do I have any chance of a refund of my deposit, if I wanted to cancel the deal? I don't want to pay £1400 over the odds.

I don't suppose anyone knows the Glasses guide value of a Honda FRV '09 1.8i EX vtech 31k miles please? It would help massively when I have it out with the dealer tomorrow in that I'll have some knowledge of their profit from my deal.

    No, you can't get out of it because you've found it cheaper elsewhere. But what does the special condition say? "Subject to inspection" - what's the actual wording?

    Minus the costs of the dealer shipping the car over i expect.

    Although they maybe adding extras to bring it upto the condition and spec that you want.

    They may refund the deposit if you ask, if they havent incured any costs

    Even if they dont refund you could cancel the deal buy the other car abd still be £800 better off

    I wonder how accurate the 5.5% interest rate is, Flat Rate anyone?

    If the OP is still here, this dealer is walking all over you, he is taking you for a complete mug, which you have been so far by not conducting any research into the car you are looking for.

    There appears to be a get out clause with the " subject to inspection" statement. Use that to reject the car and have zero sympathy for the dealers tales of woe.

    Is it actually the same car? You say exact car, same reg. If ut is, then you have a good case for going back to them and pointing out the same firm is advertising the same car at the lower price and you expect to be charged that lower price.

    If they don't agree, then when you go to inspect the car, you tell them it's not suitable.

    Subject to inspection?

    Who's inspecting? The buyer? The dealer?

    So therefore once you "inspect" the car you are liable to proceed with the contract.

    It should be worded "contract subject to inspection to buyer's satisfaction".

    Before entering into a car dealer to buy a car you have decided on you need to do three things.

    Research prices
    Research Prices
    Research prices

    Once you have done all three start negotiating. Once you sign the deal is done at the price you agreed.

    seriously have no clue as to why you paid a deposit. Cars are a dime a dozen. Dealer forecourts are full of cars that they can't get rid of because the cost of motoring is going higher and higher and many people who can do without a car are doing so right now.
  • Spoke with the dealer today and he amazingly took the same view as Poppasmurf (cheers!) and agreed it was out of order. He said that the dealers internal website showed one price but Autotrader showed a reduced price. He asked me to meet him halfway and the bun fight began (thanks Chieffy!) which included a more realistic valuation of our part-ex (originally they valued it at £4k, down to £3.5k) and ended up with a mere £550 difference in my favour. We settled on 2 yrs free servicing which will save me £600. I probably should have pushed harder but feel happy enough with the outcome and can't wait for my new car 'subject to inspection' Lol.
