New to Houses, Carpet Cost?

Help, I know I can go and get several quotes for carpeting, but I have no idea about even a rough price and don't want to get ripped off. I am a first time buyer and the house we are buying needs new carpets. I need to carpet three rooms the dimensions of which are - 16'5 x 11'9, 12'10 x 12'3, and 12'9 x 8'3.

Also, from a letting perspective, what carpets would be good, I dont know the names of any of the hard wearing types.

Any advice much appreciated.

    Hi

If the rooms are down stairs I would reccomend getting laminate as its easier to keep clean than some 'cheap' carpets and its not too expensive.

As you know the rooms sizes you may be able to get some end of roll carpet from the large carpet shops (its sells at reasonable prices) and the staff can advise you on the hard wearing etc for free, of course you dont have to buy when you get the advice but it may give you some clearer ideas.

    Good luck

For best durability & wear go for an 80/20 wool mix. It will cost you more than a synthetic fibre carpet, but is worth it in the long run. A cheapie carpet is false economy.

Look for the end of rolls bargains as suggested by Sarah.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
  • many thanks to you both, vendors stalling over offer for house at moment, so plenty of time to research!!
