recently moved in - edf energy electricity
i recently moved in to a flat . Previous tenant was my friend, since he had to do contract work from another location , he left the flat to me.
My friend was paying EDF for electricity under deemed economy 7 tariff plan. But when i changed the utility bills under my name , customer care person asked under what plan i wished to continue. My mistake i said the cheapest plan and he suggested blue price promise june 2014. I opted it based on his words , but after nearly 1.5 month when i did a comparison of previous bills paid by my friend and myself - i found that rates are differing a lot.
Can anyone tell what i should do ? Need expert advice. Can i switch back to the plan which was followed by previous tenant ?
My gas supplier is British Gas, while registering my details with them i told standard pricing - so i hope there are no rate variations with them.
Let me know what is the best plan with EDF for electricity .
Thanks

EDF Elec. The Blue June 2014 tariff is a gamble - The price per Kwh used is fixed till June 2014, but it is dearer than today's non-fixed tariffs. So you are making a bet that Energy prices will go up between now & June 2014, but those increases will not affect you.
If you had not opted for Blue June 2014 when you first registered wirh EDF, as a new customer Eon would have automatically put you on their 'Standard' tariff - You cannot opt to continue whatever tariff your friend was on, unless that is it was the Standard tariff.
BG Gas. Once again, as a new customer BG have put you on their 'Standard' tariff, this is expensive, not fixed and can go up at any time
You are fortunate in having your friends bills - Sit down with these and work out how many Kwh of Gas & Elec your friend was useing a year, then useing these figures, visit a couple of Switch sites to look for better deals0 -
There is no ETC on your EDF or BG tariffs. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks for the info. My friend was with EDF standard tariff. But i opted for blue june 2014 without any knowledge abt it. May be i will check the bills and do a comparison.
For gas, it was mentioned as standard tariff - but yet to get the bill.
Any thoughts on best deals for gas and electricity ? I am ready to switch to any cheaper ones

There aren't any "Best Deals" that are suitable for everyone.
As already posted, use your friends bills to work out how many Kwh of Gas & Elec he/she used a year, then enter these into a couple of Switch sites0 -

Yes, you can switch back ... but deemed tariffs tend to be the suppliers most expensive, standard rate tariff.
Which region are you in because in the Eastern region as an example, the EDF Blue + June tariff is cheaper than their standard tariff
Be aware that all major suppliers have put up their prices recently
