ESA question for a neighbor.

My next door neighbor has just been crying like a baby, he's disabled with some brain damage from birth and is generally a pretty mellow chap if a little slow/clumsy.
I'm a good friend with his mother and he was recently put into the 'support group' of ESA (not 100% sure what that means) but I gather he doesn't have to 'worry' about payments or looking for work.
His mother popped out to do some shopping and he came round very upset saying he's not been paid today. A while later his mum turned up and had a natter over some tea (he'd cheered up by then). He's a lovely chap and seeing him so upset was heart breaking.
I'd like to help them with this and was hoping someone might know why the payment didn't arrive, she hasn't received 'warning' and is going to be phoning up tomorrow.
My question is:
Is this a common problem? As in 'nothing to worry about' 'this happens all the time' 'Many people have delayed payments due to <insert leaves on the line type reason here>'
She's a little worried and it might help bring some peace of mind to the situation. They've both been through a lot lately, I'd dread to have to go head to head with the Social Security office.
She isn't on the internet so doesn't have access to the amount of advice it has. Having done a basic search I'm more than a little perplexed by it all
Thanks in advance!

Mistakes happen, there are occasions when payments are not made, but you really do need to call and find out why - nothing on the internet can answer your question.0

It may simply be due to the fact that he has recently been awarded the Support group, so there may be a short delay while they (DWP) sort it all out. Get the Mum and her Son to pop around to your house or you to them and ring the DWP ESA dept named on their award letter and ask them why there was no payment sent on the normal payday? They will need to give permission for you to speak on their behalf, but it would be quickest way. Best time normally between 8-9am weekdays.0

There has been some mix ups with payments over Christmas and New Year payments - some payments suddenly went to weekly, some went in early, some went in late, and some haven't gone in at all - it's probably just an admin/IT error, but someone should ring to check.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.

Could also be an error in the system, could be a few reasons, only way is to ring and find out.0
