Outlook 2003 email and Nexus 7

Options
If anyone can help it will be much appreciated. I have email on my Toshiba laptop at home on Microsoft Outlook 2003 using my ISP email address. (Plusnet) I just click on the Microsoft Outlook icon on my desktop and it takes me straight to my email.

Plusnet is an excellent ISP although they don't support the actual set up of my email on my new Tablet. Please be good enough to bear with me if I am not too clear at explaining.

Can I have my present email (Microsoft Outlook 2003) using my present email address to be available on my new Nexus 7 as well as having it available on my laptop which I use at home? I'm not keen to have another email address.

I'm struggling a bit trying to find how the system works as is Microsoft Outlook only part of, e.g., Microsoft Office? I don't think Microsoft Office is on the Nexus 7.

My Nexus 7 should be coming this week and I think it has Google Chrome already on it as a browser.

I can access some of my email on line via Webmail (Plusnet Squirrel mail) but I feel more comfortable (and confident) using Microsoft Outlook and my regular Plusnet email address.

I'll be glad of any information at all, please.

Thank you

Crimson

I am pretty sure that you can, I setup mine today so that it will access my works exchange server and I can access my works emails.

So it will easily be able to access your home mails.

There is an email app on it already.

I don't think Microsoft Office is on the Nexus 7.

Correct. This will however not present much of an obstacle as you'll be creating a Google account during the initial set-up, expanding your options somewhat. Settings for Plusnet email accounts here.

Thank you, mattylad, and for the encouragement too. My Nexus should arrive this week and your information is really helpful. Although I'm not good with technology I am eager to try.

  • Thank you, -TangleFoot- for the useful information and for the reassurance as I'm really not good with technology. I appreciate the links you have given.

My ISP, Plusnet, are always bailing me out and never complain but I really need to learn and all the information I am given is always very much appreciated.

I would have said for simplicities sake that you should create a Google account as -Tanglefoot- has suggested but as you said you didn't want to have a seperate Email address then you can create a Google account with your current address at this link.

This means you would not have to set up an import to a second Gmail address but would be able to sign in when you get the tablet for all other Google services.

Bad idea, tying yourself to an ISP like that. Even if the association is merely notional, should your 'old' account cease to exist for any reason you'll need to faff about making another one and registering your Nexus with it all over again.

Conversely, if Google ceases to exist the question of where to go next becomes utterly irrelevant.

Thank you all for your helpful information and the useful links. My Nexus 7 has arrived and, as advised in this forum, I set up a Google Account in advance as preparation. Although I'm a slow learner I'm now set 'to go' with my new Nexus 7. Thank you all again.
