 no changes to numerals old chap, just typos :rotfl: at my age you wouldnt expect me fingers and eyes to work properly now wud ya :rotfl:
mentioning power plant will scare the MSE'ers thinkin wot it costs never mind any RGI's
if it was a competition start puttin yer bets on
but to get back on track, no gascoseekers arent intrinsically safe, i never said they were, "fit for purpose" is entirelly different and they have been used for many a year by teams tracing service and mains leaks with much higher gas volumes than a domestic property, so they are "fit for purpose"!
As for gas emmitting from boilers on start up, yes there shouldnt be any, but there are occasion when they DO as i explained, whether that be due to atmospheric conditions, installation deficiencies, or a fault, that is a fact that many Gas Engineers should be able to verify?
I would also repeat that there is still no info from OP as to type of boiler?
I would also question if the slow ignition function relevent to the boiler has been checked?
A shortening pilot light on ignition can also be a cause?
It has long been a worry of mine also that "modern RGI's" do not always consider or are aware of slow ignition devices and also another possible cause on fan flued boiler being the fan impellors, how many actually service and clean the fan impellors which get caked with debris which cloggs the vanes to an extent that it drastically affects the performance of the fan?
If the combustion chamber of a fan flued boiler isnt properly aspirated then this can also cause explosive ignition!
Gas to air ratios and flash points on ignition are all relevent!Signature removed0 -
A typical instrument used by the Emergency service provider would be..
http://www.gmiuk.com/products/portable-detectors/first-responder
These are high quality specialized bits of kit which necessarily cost a fair few quid and are regularly electronically recalibrated on a special test rig to ensure performance and accuracy.
They are very sensitive and response and are capable of detecting gas in air at well below the threshold of human smell.
Most Gas Safe Reg engineers will not have one of these simply because they are too expensive and require at least monthly checks and recalibration.
They may have other electronic detectors which are readily available
Using leak detection fluid is not really a satisfactory means of detecting or locating low level leakage.
I wonder what make/model/age the op's boiler is?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
