Store Credit Card

Was contacted by Westcot about 3 weeks ago asking if I had an M&Co Credit card. I have, and it appears that I did not advise my store credit card company of my change of address.
I seldom use this card and have made a few orders online with M&Co paying with my bank debit card, so as far as I was aware M&Co knew my new address (I moved Nov 2011).
Being a little strapped for cash in August I used my M&Co credit card for a dress for a wedding. Having never received the bill, I honestly thought a couple of months later that I must have used my Debit card, doh!!
Westcot managed to trace me and telephone me.....so why couldn't Creation Finance, who run M&Co's credit card do the same??? They only had to ask M&Co!!
I told Westcot I was willing to pay whatever it was so long as they sent me proof of purchase....I wasn't sure if the amount was right. They said that would be fine, and they would get back to me. But I haven't heard anything yet.
And I think this has affected my credit score badly.... never been overdue money to anyone before.....really scared :(

Creation probably could have found you, but in general creditors don't try very hard to. They send letters to your last address and if ignore pass it to a debt collector to do the legwork.

If you haven't heard from them with details of the in writing then I would contact creation yourself and ask them to send a statement.

This will have affected your credit file badly, its almost certainly going to show a default on your credit file. Paying it off will mean it is at least shown as a settled default but it will stay on file for 6years (from the default date shown on your credit report).

Once you have checked your credit report you could try asking creation to remove it as you mistakenly believed that they had your correct address as a result of you informing M&Co and the order being placed with them. Though its a long shot.
