MOT and dash warning lights

Can anyone clarify dash warning lights lit up when going for an MOT?

I've got mine due in a few weeks, I've had the SRS light on since the last MOT which it passed lit up but I've heard that they may have been some rule changes and I've also heard that these rules may have been delayed at present.

I've been made aware of a method to reset the light and have just given it a go but have had no success.-

Spent some time searching for SRS info and finally got it resolved by following this procedure:

If you look under the dash below the steering column you will see a yellow two pin connector with nothing connected to it attached to the lower dash panel. Un clip it and let it hang down. Dont make the mistake I made and try and prise off the whole clip from the dash. It pulls apart !

Get a paperclip and do the following:

1... paperclip in to connect the two pins together
2... ignition on
3... when light goes off take out paperclip
4... when light comes back on put paperclip back in
5... when light goes off again, take out paperclip
6... when light comes back on again, put paperclip back in
7... hey prestow it should flash twice and go off
8... take paperclip out and turn ignition off

I can only get the light to go out for two seconds and then it returns.

Thank you for your email enquiry concerning
    Malfunction Indicator Lamps (MIL).

MIL's were due to be introduced in April/ May 2012 however they have been
delayed. Unfortunately we do not yet have an implementation date so at
present they will not result in failure if illuminated.

I hope this information has assisted you with your enquiry, but if you have

Roll your passenger seat back, fiddle with the wires under it and turn the ignition on. If the lights go off - job done, if they come back on again - keep fiddling or try the drivers seat.
Quite often the SRS light is because the cable has been knocked loose when the passenger seat has been moved about.. On my old MG ZS it came on and went off when I had the front brakes replaced - so possibly a sensor. Then it came back on again after I'd struggled to get something in the car and messed about with the passenger seat. A fiddle of the cables and the light went off.
  • I had this prior to my MOT back in Nov, i knew it would still pass but i thought i would get it fixed, spoke to my mechanic who said best to replace the SRS ECU and job done. I thought it would be expensive but luckily my mechanic jumped on ebay got one for £50 and fitted in. gave him an extra 30 quid for his time. job done

so if the fiddling the wires fail jump on ebay for a SRS ECU

No bulb will be as much a failure as having the light on.

If the bulb doesnt do the test procedure. By staying on for x amount of seconds or flashing so many times.

But they messed up anyway. Some manufacturers are saying its just a notification light. Not a light of impending failure or doom.

OP. SRS lights were never introduced into the test. They were due to be this year along with the 4+2+2 MOT scheme as used in Europe.

However the government backtracked and stuck with the annual MOT test and withdrew this as a reason for rejection, along with many others RFR's

But an ABS light is a failure as forgotmyname says it needs to run through a procedure.

And a MIL light is to warn you that you have an issue with emissions.

Not a fail in itself but you may fail an emission test.
