Plastering/skimming Quote

HOW GOOD IS THIS QUOTE???
We want our hall stairs and landing skimmed/plastered as we have removed 5 layers of wallpaper and its not bad but we want nice smooth walls to paint.
Our first quote for it plus the ceilings is £800??!!
Does that sound good or not?
The hallway isd about 10ft square with 5 doors going off it and the staircase is up and around like U shape and then the top landing is about 10ft by 8ft.
Any advice greatly rec'd.

    Hi

I would say that is a reasonable price to pay, obviously the plasterer has viewed the job. There is not enough info in your post really. What height are your rooms, how big is the stairs wall etc.

I think it is reasonable - add those other details for a better reply

Not bad...but not fantastic...if it is a quote from a recommended plasterer it is good value I think, get another quote or two to compare I suggest!

I think a curved stair well for £800 is really cheap, you checked if he’s any good? Seen some of his previous work?

£800 is a fair price lilyann, especially with the ceilings. On average its what i would normally charge for H/S/L's.

I dont think they mean curved I think they mean the stairs go up a bit go to the right/left a bit then come back on themselves.

The quote is from the hubby of a lady I work with,so she wouldn't recommend him or if he did a bad job she'd send him back!!!
The walls are 12 ft high and then rise to about 20ft hgh in the staircase and the staircase has walls on both sides, with the stairs going up 6 steps then right angle turn to the left adnanother 6 steps then another right angle turn to the left with 4 steps to the tops landing.Hope this helps.
The quote sounded good to me,its just we called anohter 2 plasterers and 1 let us down and didn't turn up and another is far too busy. Will try another one in the week tho'
  • hi-its the height that causes the problem-and yours is high-i think £800 is reasonable-please remember that ALL the paper including all those little bits of backing paper must be removed or they will catch in the skimming.

Yeah at first I thought the quote was rather heavy, but 12 foot ceilings are a nause, and H/S/L are a nause too. Seeing as it's a friend I'd say go with that quote.

And make sure the kettle is handy at all times :)
