I had a myomectomy in May of last year for a pedunculated fibroid but I was very ill after the op and ended up having to use a wheelchair. Mine was a complex case though as the myomectomy threw up my cancer but my hospital trust apparantly 'dont treat fibroids' so I hope yours is more sympathetic...

I am going back 11 years now but having fibroids at the age of 48 and not having the worry of pregnancy,it was suggested that the Mirena coil was tried.I went from very heavy bleeding that left me totally exhausted to feeling back to my normal self within a fortnight.Made a world of difference. It also meant that in the 5 years it was there i went through the menopause without even noticing! and when it was removed the fibroids had gone.

This obviously won't apply when you still want to have children and as it was some years ago, ideas may have changed but it was a godsend to me.

Hi there, I have had fibroids - but loads of them! If you have one there are things that can be done to remove them that don't include removal of the uterus - your gynae will be able to give you all the details as it very much depends on where the fibroid is as to what they can and can't do.

Try not to worry until the doctor has all the information, if you do want more children, then they will make sure they preserve your uterus if at all possible - it is after all, their job to do so as it will be want you ask for I am sure.
  • I have had one fibroid removed. I am 27 and have no children, but would like some one day. Mine was removed from the cervix - they never did a scan to check inside my uterus so I asked them for one.

Still on the waiting list, sigh...
