HI all
I'm recently seperated and going through divorce. Just trying to get my head around money etc and what i am entitled to? I work 3 days a week as a teacher. I have 2 children. I do have a mortgage which i am hoping i will be able to move over into my sole name the mortgage would be less than renting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You need to apply for Tax Credits and be able to tell them what your weekly childcare bill is (evened out over 52 weeks, not a school year). Depending on what you're earning, you may or may not get some support that way. Assuming you already receive child benefit, there's probably not much else you're elibigle for - possibly Council Tax Benefit so it would be worth having a look on your local council's website.
Your ability to take over the mortgage will be dependent on your bank - they will assess whether or not you can afford it.
Your ex should be paying you 20% of his income (after deductions) and this will be reduced for the number of nights the children stay over with him. You should find a calcualtor somewhere on the directgov website.
Hope that helps!0 -
Are you me?:rotfl:You should get tax credits with two children, when there's only one it drops dramatically to the point where it's hardly worth having! Your ex should be giving you 20% of his take home pay. Our mortgage is still in joint names, it's just that I just pay it. That suits us both at the moment, as I can't afford to buy out his half, and as he says it's our children's home. We're just separated though ( nearly a year) and very amicable so it may be different for you depending on how old the children are etc. PM me if I can help further ( from a 3 day a week teacher with 2 children) Oh, and you should get a council tax reduction of 25%...0
