Hi all
I recently added all my bank charges and over the past 4-5 years I have paid around 4k to HSBC in charges. I followed the templates on here and to cut a long story short I ended up having to phone the credit control team who informed they would monitor my account from now on, refund me £200 and freeze and further charges for 3 months. Considering this was a big step down from 4k to £200 I thought I might complain to the ombudsman but have yet not done so. Today I received a 'self service card' from HSBC, not sure why so I rang them, they then informed me that they have changed my current account to a basic bank account and I can only withdraw money from HSBC bank machines, I explained the nearest HSBC to me is 10 miles away, so will cost me in fuel to get there. I cannot get another bank account ANYWHERE because I am in an IVA and I did NOT agree to them to change my account type. Does anyone think I will have a leg to stand on to complain to the bank about changing my account and should I pursue my claim with the ombudsman regarding my charges? Thanks in advance

On what basis? Remember that the FOS does not have the ability to force a bank to refund charges and no longer takes on complaints about unfair bank charges.Today I received a 'self service card' from HSBC, not sure why so I rang them, they then informed me that they have changed my current account to a basic bank account and I can only withdraw money from HSBC bank machines, I explained the nearest HSBC to me is 10 miles away, so will cost me in fuel to get there. You do realise that there can be consequences when you complain about something. You have been put under the control of the credit control team and they have decided to restrict your services and ability to get credit and incur charges based on what you told them and your inability to repay your debts. Banks are allowed to restrict services based on your creditworthiness and ability to afford them. I know this isnt what you want to hear but there is nothing wrong here.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. I think their £200 and offering to freeze the charges for the next 3 months is a fair offer. By changing your account, this is how they will "monitor" your account from now on. Your account will report directly into their credit control team and they won't allow the fees to mount up again. If you still struggle, their next step would be to close your account so i'd go along with what they've offered if i were you.
Bankrupts can get bank accounts, have you tried Barclays or the Coop ?
No point whatsoever in going to FOS.0
