mitering

I have spend all afternoon trying to sort out how to miter the bit over the top of my kitchen cupboards, however I do it it won't come out right. I can't clamp the wood in to the miter saw I have so that the angle comes out right on the wood. It doesn't help that the blade in the miter saw seems to waggle about all over the place either. Is there an easy way of doing it. I've already sawed my finger and had a major throwing stuff session, it's so bloody frustrating!!!!!!!
Nothing to see here, move along.
