Large room to heat ? Heater

Just bought a new house and the large conservatory on the back is bitter cold. We have central heating in there but it makes no difference so need something to give it a major boast for when the kids are using it. Can anyone recommend a decent heater for the room please, I've been looking at the Dyson Hot which was energy efficient as far as heaters go but then noticed the price! I don't mind paying for something decent if it is gong to be cost effective in the long run,

Thanks for reading.

Any electrical heater is more or less the same efficiency - almost 100%

Perhaps you could also consider increasing the sizes of the existing radiators, or perhaps adding some more?

But a greenhouse is always going to be cold in winter and hot in summer.

A £10 fan heater will do the same job as the £300 Dyson Hot for much less. The running costs of the Dyson are exacty the same as a fan heater which is also 100% efficient. Whilst the motor in a conventional fan heater may not be 100% efficient that only accounts for a very small portion of the total running cost and the waste heat generated by the inefficient fan in the conventional fan heater is added to the room anyway.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Buy a cheap 2-3 kw heater, try it and see if it works. If it doesn't accept glass is a very poor retainer of heat, close the conservatory doors and look forward to warmer weather.
  • If you have a north facing conservatory forget it. As daveyjp says use it during mild weather but don't waste your money at the moment. You will only be heating the sky!
