I have mine in a freeview Samsung and works fine. I disagree with one of the posters views "but I can't help wondering about the odds against finding two programs worth recording plus one to watch simultaneously from the selection of channels offered on Freeview!"

Only last night there were 3 programs on tv I wanted to record having gone out and missed one of them.

I often find there are several program to record at once, there is a lot of rubbish on but thats why I love a pvr to record any programs I do like then watch later.

Also if the phone rings you can record what your watching and play back later, think its called chase play. Theres also option to bypass adverts with a button which will advance x (30 secs) in time
  • I got one a month ago from Richer Sounds. A great PVR - recommend.
Only minor gripe is the time it takes to load the complete EPG after it wakes up. There is a new software update available that caches the EPG (OTA next week I think - though you can download it yourself now)- so even the minor gripe will go away.

Where's your info from foraminfera? I had a look on hummy.org and there's no mention it on there?
  • It is a good price for the Humax, but like others have said, it hasn't gone down that much. When I was looking for a PVR before Christmas the best deal going was £175 from Martin Dawes - it's £172 now - they also offer something similar 'reserve/pay online, collect instore' service, so you can save on the postage and get it the same day if you have a local store.

It sounds daft, but because I couldn't get find better deal on the Humax I ended paying more (£206) for a 250GB Toppy on Ebay, which hasn't missed a beat in the time I've had it (even with the weak signal off our old TV aerial).

The USB port on the Toppy is at the rear, so if you want to permanently connect it to a PC for archiving (the kid's one is just the other side of the wall) it's neater than having a cable trailing away from the front. But apart from that, I think they're pretty similar beasts.

    :)

Its not really a bargain as this has gone down like £3 in a year. Extremely overated and its only plus, and a kicking plus that is, is that you can put the files on the PC.

Apart from that my Dual does the same at a third of the price.

any links to this identical machine for £55?

I think they have their firmware versions mixed up, next weeks OTA is a repeat of 1.00.06, the website is currently on 1.00.10 which is the latest so far and still doesn't have the stored EPG. The freeview playback software is rumoured to be not far off which will hopefully have the stored EPG but you never know. Hummy.org or digital spy are the best places to keep an eye on
  • If you missed out on the dixons buying weekend dont worry you can do what I recommended in a previous post about this PVR.

do a web search and find the cheapest supplier with them in stock.

Then check your local Richer Sounds and see if they are selling them and are they more expensive than your other online retailer. Print off other retailers online price (I used Martin Dawes as they allow free collection from store so didnt need to include delivery charges)

Then get Richer sounds to honor there price match deal (items £100-£500) they will beat other price by £10. Thereby getting you a hummy at £10 below the best online price and collected the same day from a local richer sounds store.

Currently Martin Dawes £172.50 (minus £10 price match) = £162.50 at Richer Sounds
  • Linked from the Humax UK site:

And yes - I can see it is a repeat of v.1.00.06 (blast).... have to get a null modem cable...

Yup a big vote from me for this model. Had it a year now, absolutely superb piece of kit. Any visitors I have cant believe how easy it is to use (even my 72 year old Mum).

There will always be the Toppy v Humax debaters but all I can say is Im extremely happy with my Humax but have never tried a Toppy.

You can get cheaper PVRs most of which you will find lots of poor reviews for....you really do seem to get what you pay for in the case of this piece of technology and the lack of any big price drop over time supports this.
