I once tried to install Google Earth on an office PC with respectable spec, eg 1 GB of memory and 1.5 GHz processor, but after completing the lengthy install was disappointed that Google Earth would crash very soon after being started. A bit of research indicated the graphics card was probably too low powered.
All I really want is to be able to pick a spot on the earth and view a detailed static image - don't need to be able to zoom around or have a video tour of the route! In fact i seem to remember there used to be a web browser based service from Google at the beginning, that allowed just this.
Is there any alternative way of getting access to the full high quality Google Earth images on a basic spec PC?

Not sure if it will help you but try FlashEarth. Does not need to be installed like Google Earth. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Second vote for FlashEarth - found this on another site earlier today much better and it offers other mapping sites0

Only yesterday did I become a windows XP user. prior to that I enjoyed flashearth as it was all i could get on my old windows '98. Even though I've spent time looking at Google earth, I've noticed that flashearth is infinately brighter/clearer through xp.
It is worth a mention that when viewing via flashearth, it pays to clic on each of the options, ie microsoft/google/ask etc as some are better than others. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Tried the above suggestion and Flashearth is a brilliant solution, even an elderly laptop can see decent aerial views, plus the office PC I mentioned can zoom in & out real quick.
Thanks for the quick response folks!0
