    Check out movie maker http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/moviemaker2.mspx

It's free, though can't say how good it is.

The easiest way might be to use a dvd rip program to make it into mpeg or avi files on your computer. These can be edited with movie maker.

After editing you would need to use a program such as Nero to convert the files back to DVD.

Since it's for just one project you could also download a trial copy of something like Premiere. If you can get access to a Mac then Final Cut would be a better choice or even iMovie would probably do.

If you do download a trial version to do this, remember to check what the restrictions are. I say this after having spent ages working on something in a trial version just to find that it put a watermark on the final file!

Some trial versions are fully functional for a limited time, I find it best to stick to trial versions that state clearly what the restrictions are, it's the ones that don't say that can turn out to be unusable.

Haven't used Premiere but the Adobe trials are usually fully functional for 30 days.
