Gas & Elec - Who's best?
Ok so I've just moved into a 2 bed bungalow and utilities are currently with EDF (Elec) and Southern Electric (Gas), both on standard tariff. Single working occupant, cooker is electric, shower only, gas central heating.
I've done comparison sites and am even more confused !!! One says Co-op will be best for me, although I can't find out if they've put their prices up yet or not as they all seem to be doing. Uswitch said another I'd never heard of which makes me wary.
Sainsburys Energy doing an offer I saw in store that gives you 10000 nectar points (over 12 months) and £65 credit.
I'm a little lost with cashback sites, promos, and credits. Who's trustworthy in your opinion? Who's offers the actual best price without all the small print?
THANK YOU in advance

Ok, let us see if we can cut throiugh the confusion for you.
First of all we will need the information that you used:
1. Your supply region (or first part of your postcode)
2. Your annual consumption in kWh for each fuel
(and if you could also state what the first comparison site you used before uSwitch was, that'll be good)
Edit:
Such difficult questions I know. I see you've gone off to think about the answers. Whenever you're ready

Use a comp site with your actual annual kWh figures. Then factor in any promos such as cashback/Nectar points in the final analysis. Then switch using a cashback site.
No point in going for a supplier giving you £65 in Nectar points if they cost £100pa more anyway.
There is no 'best' or 'cheapest': if there was we would all be using the same supplier. It depends on usage and consumption. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hi guys
Am in BH12 area. I haven't got a current usage as I've always lived with others before, this is my first place on my own - that's why I tried to give as many usage details as I could without knowing exact.
It was moneysupermarket that said Co-op0 -

That's why you got different answers if you allowed different comparison sites to guess your usage
This MSE article explains more

Contact EDF and Southern Electric who should be able to advise you your anticipated annual usages and then plug those figures into a couple of comparison sites
Remember, it doesn't really matter whether or not you get the very best deal for you (you can always switch again if you find you could get a much better deal once you get some more accurate consumption figures) ... but doing nothing is probably costing you about £200 a year extra on those standard (expensive) tariffs.0 -
Thanks Wywth - I still don't understand how they could give me usage figures if I've only been there 12 days !!!0

People can only advise you based on the information you provide

That's cool. Thank you.
I've gone with Co-Op Energy for now. Their pricing is better than current, and I've researched them online and they seem favourable, and don't have any exit fee so if I've made a bad choice, I'm not tied in.
Still not something I understand massively but I know that "standard" tarriffs are not the cheapest0 -
I've done the same Lurch! Gone with co- op for now because of the no exit fees, I'm due to change next week.At the mo I'm with British gas and n power, like you I've just moved and never had mains gas before.
You can always switch, keep a note of readings monthly to give you a guide.0
