HMV & The Compliments Card

Sorry if this is in the wrong section I think that the answer is going to foredrawn.

I have a Edenred Compliments card and I wonder if anyone knows if they are still accepting the Card?

I wondered as it isn't an actual gift voucher and although it isn't a credit/debit card it is swiped in the same way as Visa card. It is also put through the tills as a Visa card.

Thanks in advance.

  • I suspect they would on the basis it is a prepaid credit card and its not them that have been prepaid.

Gift vouchers/ cards issued by them are the issue as the money is already in the bank and they dont want to have to lose stock for free when they potentially have problems paying their staff etc that are considered more important than consumers

Thank you for quick reply. It does help.

I was just unsure with it still being a giftcard, but one that isn't tied to a specific shop/company like HMVs own, but can be used in a number of shops.

I guess I'll just take it in and see what they say.

looking on their site is is basically a pre-paid Maestro/Solo card which are Mastercard brands. so in effect a Mastercard. so unless they have stopped taking credit cards you should be safe to use it

    from their website compliments.edenred.co.uk/Shopping.htm
Compliments Card can be used to make online and/or telephone purchases at certain retailers - see list below. When making an online or telephone purchase you will be asked for the card type which is Maestro/Solo.
what makes you think they can be used at HMV as its not listed as one of their participating retailers
  • Thanks Railbuff.

I have just looked myself at the list of approved shops and HMV have disappeared from it.

They used to take the card and I have used it just before this crash, but I wonder if Compliments have removed them from the approved list because of HMV going into administration.

Guess I'll have to pay hard cash for my DVDs then :-)

    Why would you guess that?

You've been told several times that they'll probably still take it, so it's a bizarre conclusion to come to!

Erm 'guess' I should have made it clearer that this line was meant to be a joke and not to be taken seriously. I couldn't see smilies on the quick reply so I did it the old fashioned way :-) :)
