Going Self Employed As A Writer
Comments

If your income increases each year, why don't you overestimate your income to prevent an o/p?
Because I don't know how much to overestimate by, and there have been a few years (albeit not many) when my income stayed the same.
I do estimate my income based on a projection of growth - not just what I earned the previous year, but it's just not possible for me to be accurate.
My timetable is now at full capacity, so I am unlikely now to earn more than I currently do unless I get a 3rd job (possible, but not definite), and when I do I will sort out my 'change of circumstance' to try to keep my claim as close as possible to my actual earnings.
In our house, when things break, we just pretend they still work0 -
This is, I suppose, the problem with going self-employed as a writer: a fluctuating income.orangeslimes wrote: »I know someone who is a self employed writer claiming working tax credits. They don't check up on her, but I think it is a bit difficult because her income fluctuates from month to month.
The job centre did provide her with support at the beginning. Sent her on courses, and she had access to a free office for a while.
Edit: She does bring in significantly less than minimum wage though, so I would be worried about her under this new system.0
