Hi a bit of advice needed please since June I have been a partner on my husbands claim to ESA WRAG group, we have 2 children 10 and 6 we claimed CTC. He walked out on me nearly 2 weeks ago, I have put a claim in for JSA and have been to 2 interviews so far at the job centre and go again on Thursday then sign on, on Tuesday. I was told today my claim has still not been fully processed so shall ring tomorrow morn to find out about that. I am still receiving child tax credits £111 a week and Cb £134.80 every 4 weeks. Do you still have 4 weeks to tell tax credits of a change of circumstances as I'm worried that when I call them they will stop our joint claim for CTC and open a new single claim and the CTC payments will be stopped until its processed living us nothing to live on. Any information gladly received x

ps before anyone has a go at me for claiming benefits, I have already put in 2 job application forms, have 2 coming in the post and have a list of places to ring tomorrow, I have also found a suitable childminder. Things are not easy right now as you can understand and I have spent the last 7 months looking after my husband so was unable to work.

  • You need to tell them straight away. Any payments received between when he left and when you tell them will normally be an overpayment. The single claim can be done over the phone but make sure you tell them ASAP!!!
