Poor work by garage, paid by credit card...

Would you like to restart OP and tell us what, on a built up engine, alerted you to the need to take it apart to find fault in it? Was it dry, did it not turn freely or did you have some other intuition?
For starters the carbs were on back to front, i emailed the engine company and they told me this would not be a problem, however i also emailed the carb manufacturer who confirmed they were back to front and the engine would not work properly in this orientation. We then noticed that some of the gaskets did not appear to line up leaving gaps and when we tried to turn the engine over by hand it was very stiff. At this point i read of another customer on the internet who had a similar problem with the company and when they sent their whole car down their for the engine to be fixed the company did more damage to the engine and actually damaged the car himself. I believe that customer is taking them to court.0 -
Hi OP, never seen carbs fitted back to front, can't even think of a fitment that that would be possible. That being the case I think you now have to go down the CC route as realistcally you will now only get into a dispute with the garage with what was right and what was wrong as you have now destroyed the evidence by stripping it down.
Best of luck.0 -
Hi the manifold is on top of the engine and the carbs have a symmetrical bolt pattern so if you were to look at them from the top it is possible to fit them 180 degrees in the wrong orientation.
I have taken photos of the faults as we went along so i will print and include them in the letter too. The company sent me a phot before delivery of my carbs and manifold built up on the bench and they were fitted the correct way round so i suspect they have just sent me an old stock photo without realising their error.
Who is "OP" by the way, is that a nickname for newbies?0
