I'm after a new tft and the shops only seem to be stocking widescreen now. How do digital photos display on a widescren monitor as I currently have 1280x1024 and the model i am looking at is 1440x900. Does it stretch and distort them or does it crop bits off? thanks

It will not stretch or distort them, but depending on the original size of the photo, you may have to use the zoom function of your photo viewer to see the whole picture - just as you do with your current monitor.
If your photo is 3000 x 2000 pixels, you will have to zoom in to see all of the height of the photo on your 1280x1024. You will have to zoom in a little more to see the full height of the photo on a 1440x900 (as there are fewer pixels measured vertically). this will just leave a slightly larger gap on either side of the photo.0
