British Gas have 'lost' opening meter reading

We moved into a new house last May and signed up with British Gas as they were the current supplier.
I signed up online and supplied them with the gas and electric meter readings.
Eight months later, I am still waiting for an accurate bill from BG. The meters have been read twice and I have supplied the readings three times, but they keep sending estimated bills which were way off. The gas is fine, but the electric is wrong each time.
Having spoken with them several times, it seems they have 'lost' the opening meter reading that I supplied back in May and they can only give me a bill with an 'estimated' for my first reading.
How can they give me an accurate bill with an estimated opening reading? I no longer have the readings that I gave them, so I am concerned that I will be paying for energy that I haven't used.
I hope this makes sense and I would appreciate any advice you can give

They should have a final reading for the people that lived there before as they would of billed up to this figure, I'd ask them to check there records for there final read hth0

This is happening to me too.
I moved in gave them by gas and electric bill on the day.
I submitted a reading for both.
My electric is fine but they estimated my gas for some strange reason.
I called them up they reviewed the gas but also changed by electric reading to their estimated even though the electric was fine in the first place. And now they also missed out the first month so it will look like I haven't paid for the first month I moved in.
I'm tempted to just pay it and leave it be since I've lost my original readings but at the same time it still seems like there is a month unaccounted for and don't want it to come up again sometime in the future. Them reviewing it made my bill go up.
I'm going to phone them one more time.0 -

Is the property rented or did you buy it?
If you don't have the details of the initial meter readings you provided, perhaps you are now being billed for less energy than you have actually consumed? :beer:0
