How quickly...

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum!
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with just how quickly a bank like NatWest will close your account if I start the process of reclaiming bank charges? Would they do it straight away if I just ask for statements (as I've heard some rumours to this effect)?
I'm at the bottom of my £1400 overdraft with them, and at the bottom of my £400 credit card. My credit score is bad, to say the least. I think, anyway, as I can't even afford to get a credit report.
I'm trying to get on top of everything as my overspending was purely my own fault, but I couldn't afford to have NatWest ask me for £1800...I'd have NO way of paying it to them.
Could anyone please give me their experiences and/or advice?
Thanks in advance!

Hi
I'm no expert but I have not heard of Nat West closing accounts and reclaiming cannot have any impact on your credit score/rating.
I just got back almost 4 grand:T and they have not closed my account. They have said that if I continue to go over limits and then reclaim they may change my account to one that does not have a facility. But they have not closed my account.
Don't worry just go for it, you will get all the help you need on here. Just think about getting yourself straight financially and never giving the greedy banks any more of your hard earned money.
At least the highway men robbed from the rich, banks are taking from people when they are at there lowest, spiralling them into further difficulty.

My OH got back £2700 from NatWest and they've still got her account open. Even if the bank does close your account just go to another bank, someone will take your money. Also if they close it report them to the Financial Ombusman as their not allowed to do that as it's a form of punishment.
Just Claim away, atleast you'll get some money back, don't be afraid. The law is on your side."I AM THE GATEKEEPER OF MY OWN DESTINY" Nacho Libre

Hi
Just saw your post, my OH started her claim back in Dec 06 prior to this mad rush that seems to have happened. She sent the first letter asking for the statements and got a reply within 4 weeks I believe and then sent a letter asking for the money back and was near the end of the 2 weeks when Natwest made the offer.
We live near Blackpool, Lancs.
I received a letter from the Halifax stating I'd have to wait 8 weeks, but they responed within 4 weeks. Have you sent your letters recorded and set a date when you'd start your court action? as you'll need to stick by this so if you go all the way to court (meaning you have stand in the court room and defend your claim) the judges know you stuck to your timescale etc.
So if you've been unsuccessful so far, start your Online claim and within 4/5 weeks Natwest would have given you a response. Make your claim more noticable to Natwest.
Good Luck"I AM THE GATEKEEPER OF MY OWN DESTINY" Nacho Libre
