JSA & Working, does anyone know?!

Quick explanation. In a job that isnt bad pay but hours very very low and irregular, can go a week or two with 0 hours at present. Struggling to live and also I'd be getting more money on JSA.

Tried applying for contributions based JSA as women on phone told me my earnings should be topped up, but then said something about only £5 being allowed? So I wouldnt even work 1 hour (and it takes me an hour to drive to work) just for 5 quid and then JSA would take the rest, is that right? Because some weeks I work 10 hours, others none. It cost more than £5 in petrol and parking fees for me to get to work.

Anyone?? :D
Thanks.

Assuming you are over 25 and would get £71 JSA....
work zero hours, receive JSA of £71
work 10 hours and earn £65, receive JSA of £11

this assumes you qualify for JSA either CB or IB

No, it's the other way round - the JCP do not take anything from you, they supplement your earned income to ensure you have a minimum of £76 a week.

AHH, I see :D. That'd be a massive help, because like I said some weeks I'm working 0 hours. My contract is 'as and when' so I just do hours that are available. Im looking for something with more hours/another part time job but was just struggling in the mean time. Thank u both for explaining.
