excuse the pun but if you were in their shoes what would you have done? Maybe you were discriminated against but if it was your shop what would you have done?

I wouldn't have been so ignorant and prejudice! You can't write off a whole section of people just because you have had problems with one of them in the past.

well lets just hope all businesses don't think like that or I'm going to be on benefits for a long time to come then, because I'm not planning on ever getting married again.

Maybe, but it is illegal to discriminate on certain grounds - so tough on the company.

It is illegal to discriminate on the basis of age, sex, etc etc but not on the basis of being a single parent AFAIK. However, in the case of the OP I would report the charity to the Charity Commission.....

It's actually indirect discrimination, which *is* illegal. Because the majority of single parents are women, discriminating against people on grounds of single parentdom = gender based discrimination in the eyes of the law.

New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.
  • I think it IS actually illegal to discriminate on the grounds of marital status.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
