Trade union fees / legal insurance

Hi guys. New poster here. I usually find the answer i am looking for here but couldn't find anything which relates to this question.

I have been a member of a trade union for the entire 24 years i have been employed. I've spent thousands and received nothing back. In the last two years i have requested help / advice from my union 3 times and found them to be toothless and uninterested. I basically pay my dues to cover my legal fees should i end up in an dispute with my employer. I am wondering if there is an insurance policy i can take out which covers me for the same situation. Can anyone advise?

Home Insurance allows you to add Legal Expenses/ Protection which normally covers:

1) Advice on any topic
2) Representation on matters arising from.....
a) Employment
b) Consumer/ Contract
c) Injury (non-motor)
d) Property disputes

Policies do vary though and so should be checked to find exactly what they cover. Also worth noting they only give cover where there is reasonable prospects of success, I assume this is the same with your T/U cover but dont know.

Whilst there are stand alone policies I've never seen a good one that is notably cheaper than that linked to Home and employement can be excluded with some.
