Apparently the Chinese have taken out 2,200 patents for applications of graphene, the USA 1,700, the UK 54.
Well done the thrusting enterprising risk-taking private sector!

"It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis

China 1,347,350,000
USA 315,114,000
UK 63,181,775
look at the population difference
would you expect any different?0 -

Annoying if this is true, we invented it and the Gov't have invested c£100m into it.
Maybe we got the best 54 patents?0 -
Based on the patents the US has granted recently they've probably got all the ones that are about which graphene molecules have the most "rounded" corners or some other trivial tripe.0

Maybe not so trivial?
I'm reading a book on Quantum Mechanics which reveals these little details make a killer difference, for example in the way an insulator works with electormagnetism within a semi conductor to bring about the perfect eletron angular spin that makes your hard drive more relable.0 -

If you get the flux capacitor working can you go back to 1973 and give my dad that Sports Almanac?

Possibly not, but if Apple and their ilk own the patent then how it looks is the "Killer" aspect they'll be bothered about0 -

I used to work in Manchester about the time a lot of the Graphene research was breaking through, only a couple of years ago now.
Research staff are quite transient and international in outlook now; it shouldn't be a surprise they venture further afield. I believe IBM has been pushing money at the subject, and they have twice the number of patents UK do.
Samsung are also pumping in a lot of money.
Not to miss out, Cameron promised £20m+ recently; which is small fry really.
It just shows how we can't assume the rest of the world stand idly by whilst we grow our markets in new areas. Everyone wants a piece of the action now.0 -
Might want to check the nationality of the creators at man uni.0

In a global market place with all countries becoming dependent on each, for scarce resources as well as financially interlinked perhaps it is time to work collaboratively on technology such as this?
Consumers can be sucked dry by the likes of Apple patents, for discretionary spend, but for ground breaking stuff that is of benefit of mankind, just maybe, it should be "freely" available?"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Could I make costume strong enough to deflect bullets while retaining full mobility out of graphene ? I have a patent for a superhero suit in mind.0
