Code 800B0100 windows update encountered an unknown erro

hi there when i try and install updates on my windows 7 machine they fail and i get the above error code.

So far i have run a full scan with Avast , malwarebytes , come back clean

have run the system update readiness tool and the fix it tool ( found 3 problems and fixed them) , but still the update's fail.

is there anything else i can try or do i need to do a factory restore ?

Hi,

I had a problem with windows update on someones PC that was fixed by the following :
===============================================
1. Open up a command prompt as admin and run: net stop wuauserv . Leave the prompt open.
2. Navigate to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and delete the contents of the download folder as well as C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\DataStore.edb
3. Return to the command prompt and run: "net start wuauserv"
4. Reboot
5. Re-run windows update.

I found it somewhere on a forum, can't remember where but it worked for me.

Microsoft has a tool that does all that for you.
