driverguide - how the mighty can fall

10 years ago, if you needed an XP driver, your first and only mission was driverguide. Especially for audio and 56k modem drivers.
People actually uploaded XP drivers for other people.

I went looking for an Xp driver for one of those awful Technica webcams yesterday.
To download it for free from driverguide, you have to first download the downloader - which includes all sorts of rubbish including toolbars, sweetim, and some sort of pdf creator. All complete trash which will cause all sorts of grief to your computer.

Very sad to see what used to be an excellent website in such a state.

There is really very little totally free that doesn't include 'crapware'

I suppose the site has to get paid somehow?

Use sandboxie when running your browser, then do the download, and always run the download in sandboxie, then when finished, go into the sandbox window and recover the file you want, then delete contents of the sandbox.

No crapware and you have the file you want.
