Time between card authorisation and money being taken

Hi folks, hope I've posted this in the correct forum. Apologies if I haven't.
I keep up to date cross checking my bank transactions with my money planning software and I've noticed that there are some transactions that have yet to go through the bank. All of them were paid with a debit card and as far as I know they should go through pretty much straight away. There's a transaction from August, another from September (both less than £10) and the most recent is from the beginning of December (£40+). All are from different shops and all are still waiting to clear my bank account.
My question is this: Is there a maximum time which needs to elapse before a company can no longer claim the payment from the bank?
The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago and the payment was never taken so do you think it's safe to say that the current outstanding payments will not be taken? In this age of instant payments I would have thought that if the payments haven't been taken by now then they're not likely to be, but I don't want to remover them from my planner in case there's a chance that the companies concerned can still take them.
Many thanks

I want to shop where you are shopping.0

They can take them for upto 6 months from the transaction date.
However, you'll still owe the amount for 6 years from the transaction date, so even after 6 months, they might contact you to request payment, and if you refuse, involve a debt collection agency.
The longest I've had from transaction to taking the funds has been 2 weeks.0 -
The August/September ones probably won't happen now though it's not impossible.
There's a high chance that the December one will0 -
No wonder the retail industry is in such a state with this sort of control over their cashflow. I wonder if they've paid their suppliers yet.0

There was a thread on here recently when a man made a lot of journeys to and from Jersey (I think) and the ferry company had not charged him for one journey.
His wife was incandescent with rage because they had the temerity to take the fare some months later!
Moral if you pay by card you pay - if they never debit you all well and good but please don't complain if the transaction turns up months later.0 -
Out of interest can debit card payments debit your account on a weekend?
Eg If I paid for something now (Friday) will it debit tonight the weekend or Monday?0 -
Saturday and Sunday are not business days - the amount may be earmarked but if not debited today will not now show until Monday at the earliest.Out of interest can debit card payments debit your account on a weekend?
