Wallpapering Uggggg

Hi I have a wall with some uneven bits shall we say.
You can sort of see the bits through the meduim coloured painted
old smooth print wallpaper that is up, underneath the paper is linning paper.
Now what i like to know is if i put up a light cream paper ON TOP of the painted paper that is up will the uneven surface be less noticeable or more?
Plus can i paper on top of the painted wallpaper?
Hope all this makes sence
thanks

  • You can paper on top of painted paper but I don't think it will be less noticeable.

I think you'll be throwing good money away, you're best biting the bullet and getting the walls re-plastered and then papering, it will cost more but it will definitley look better when it's done.

Putting up a third layer is papering over the cracks so to speak. Strip it all off and start again. You'll probably need some minor repair works to the plaster. I doubt very much that it will need a complete skim tbh. Post a pic and lets have a look.

The wal is ducked but i am just putting up some cheap paper to get rid of the Ex's work.
I will strip back and modify the wall as i am not sure what all the lumps are as she did all the papering.
    Thanks

Depends how many 'lumps', but if its only a couple, when you strip it back you may be able to get away with sanding the affected areas rather than re-plaster the whole room. Also it could also be old raw plugs that have not been removed / made good, I have seen this alot when people have tried to cut corners. One thing I have learnt with diy - and wallpapering and painting are prime for it is; preparation is key, if you dont prepare your surfaces you are just going to waste your time and effort (in this case its your ex so who cares ;-P).
