Advice on family holiday in Newquay

Hi,
I was just about to book a week away in Newquay at the middle/end of August. I did a quick search on teenagers and Newquay and was dismayed at the results!!
Is there anyone who can reassure me that the influx of post-GCSE students celebrating happens only at the beginning of July and that they would not be around by end of August?
Many thanks

We wanted to go there this year but i keep getting told that Newquay is hot spot for stag do's now as well?0

Newquay has had a big problem with teen drinking for a long while now. No guarantees in summer that you won't come across your share of youngsters "having fun"
I can think of 101 other places I would rather stay on a family holiday in the west country and maybe just visit Newquay for a day
Cheap flights into Newquay probably hasn't helped this either0 -
Even within Cornwall, Newquay now has a reputation as 'stag do central' and with a HUGE problem with underage drinking (and drinking in general).
What kind of holiday are you looking for in Cornwall, maybe i could recommend some places (i live in Cornwall)?0 -
We stay in Newquay a lot, well just outside as it's a great location with great beaches. Stag do's won't affect day to day things. Guess it depends what you're after. There is loads for kids to do, yes it has underage drinkers but presumably you won't be letting yours?? All seaside towns have their share and to reduce this the town centre is an alcohol free zone so there shouldn't be people drinking in the streets.
Padstow or st Ives are quieter ....0 -
Thanks for your replies.
I have a 11 and 15 year old. My older one does not like rowdy groups and the idea was to let him have a bit of freedom to go out and about on his own during the day and early evening, but I know he would feel really intimidated by large groups of kids similar age to him.
I wouldn't mind normal Saturday night groups, (been there, done a little of that myself!:o) but what I have read online is worse than that in my opinion.
WantToBe - any advice would be gratefully received. I wanted to be central for the reason above, but if he is not happy then maybe we should look for somewhere a bit quieter, but not in the middle of the countryside. Any suggestions?£2012 in 2012 = £34.440 -
Maybe staying on some sort of holiday camp type site may be better as there will likely be similar age youngsters. Doesn't have to be huge site but one with more facilities is likely to attract more family groups
Hayle worth a look as plenty of sites including Riviere Sands from Haven

Little further round is St Ives which is lovely as mentioned but will be hugely busy in summer holidays (as will most places in Cornwall in fairness). Traffic and parking especially can be very tricky here
Padstow are is lovely and nice places to eat in town and wander, again in high season very popular with visitors
Probably plenty of holiday camp sites around Newquay as well so i wouldn't write it off , I just wouldn't choose to stay in the centre or in a B&B/hotel in/near centre (not with my family anyway!)0 -
We went on holiday for 2 weeks last year to St Ives staying in the Holiday Village there. Your typical holiday site but ti was well placed for getting out and about. We went into Newquay for the day on Saturday and it was absolutely fantastic during the day however we were going to stay and have our evening meal and go for a few drinks after - but - as evening fell and a load of stag do's were about and myself, my husband my 16 year old daughter and her 15 year old friend felt quite intimidated and ended up going back to St Ives. (we ended up having dinner at the Sheaf of Wheat which can I say is fantastic we must have went there about 6 times on our holiday).0

Don't do it. As already mentioned, Newquay is fine for a family trip, but not good for a family stay. The traffic is also horrific during summer. It's such a beautiful County, why stay in the equivalent of Southend?Pants0
