    Well that explains things.

I posted a job for the company I work for, it's only 15 hours weekly but we've had applicants from 40 miles away applying!

    Crazy.

The reason being when we search some jobs dont show where they are, even though search critiria of say 20 miles is used. There is not a lot of infomation to see except for the description, sometimes the hours and sometimes the rate of pay.
So your seeing what happens after we click the apply now button and send our cv....we do not know where our cv ends up, and we end up applying for a job thats not possible or feasable to get to...and you get apps from miles and miles away, therefore wasting valuable business time.
  • I've got the same problem. I live in Leicester and it has recommended jobs that are based in Derby, Birmingham, Peterborough, somewhere in Norfolk, Stratford Upon Avon and Sheffield and yesterday it surpassed itself by recommending a job in London. These places are all, supposedly, within 20 miles of Leicester.

I've also come across two jobs that have no way of applying for them - there is no "apply" button, no email address and no way of finding out who the company is.

I'm not getting any loan advertisements but I am getting job alert emails from sites I've never heard of and have never registered with which I am very reluctant to open which I am now assuming have come in a similar fashion to the loan emails.

Also whatever I do the Universal Jobmatch won't send me any email alerts despite them all being set up correctly.

Yes, i have had the invisible apply button syndrome happen to me, i made an enquiry to the job centre, they said i had already applied for it, but i don't see how, any that i have applied for didn't grey out the button.

I too am sick to death of the amount of jobs that are not in my home city i have gone back to separately looking at sites for jobs. i would say that https://www.indeed.co.uk is quite good in pulling in jobs from other job boards.

Thank God I'm not the only one! Signed up with it yesterday (following threats from JCP that I would not get my JSA if I did not).

Until September I was working in a senior management job but left due to redundancy. Believe me I am eager to find another job but Universal Jobmatch is taking up valuable time I could be spending on real job hunting.

    My main gripes:

    * A lot of the jobs that come up were posted in Oct/Nov - are you seriously telling me these jobs are still open?
    * The description text all runs into itself making it nigh on impossible to read.
    * The search facility is so broad that it is throwing up loads of jobs I'm not qualified to do and/or that are up to 100 miles away from where I live.
    * All the jobs seem to be from low-grade agencies, not direct to employers. I'm not certain (having been a recuiter and dealt with agencies) that my applications will ever reach the companies.
    * Why can't you send a covering letter through? I would never look at a CV without a letter so I'm assuming those hiring won't look at mine.
    * The NHS is the UK's largest employer so why are NHS jobs not covered by Universal Jobmatch? Same goes for all the other public sector organisations (despite lots of redundancies they are all always still recruiting).
    * About 30% of the jobs have the 'Send' button missing so you can't apply for them anyway.
    * I resent spending time every day ploughing through jobs I'm not qualified for on the other side of the country when I could be doing something that will actually get me a job (i.e. by applying directly to firms and via reputable agencies for jobs that have been advertised in the last week and are still open).
    * I resent that despite doing all the right things, unless I fill in this damn website every day I will not get my JSA (my applications for jobs not listed on Universal Jobmatch don't register on JCP's system).

As if being unemployed is not soul destroying enough we have to be treated like imbeciles with Big Brother peering over our shoulders. Last time I signed on I got told off for applying for several different posts within the same companies - the benefits officer told me I would be better picking up the Yellow Pages and writing on spec to local employers, rather than actually applying for jobs they are advertising. Eh? Good job I know she was talking rubbish but I feel for anyone who does not know their way around the jobs market.

The NHS won't advertise on jobmatch.

I emailed them ages ago about a bug on the site. They ignored it. I emailed them again a week or two later. They ignored that too.

It's the DWP. They think they're bullet proof and unaccountable to anyone.

Ive had all the same problems, I find though that the only way to find the jobs that are actually within travelling distance is to only fill in the 3rd of the 3 boxes with the location of where you want to search the jobs and not the skills or keyword boxes. Still have to trawl though all of the jobs then though, cant chose a specific sector!

    Hi,

You do know its not mandatory yet? who told you your Jobseekers would be stopped if you don't sign up for it is lying to get you sign up.

It maybe become mandatory soon but as of now its not so its up to you if you sign up or not and if you don't then your Jobseekers won't be affected.

I signed up since it first launched and not had any problems however I haven't gived DWP access to my account as like I stated its not mandatory yet :)
