Universal Jobmatch site DWP

I have signed up to this service (as if you want to apply for a job you have no choice - even thought their web page says different)
I am really struggling as a lot of the jobs are advertised in areas of "MID" and when you do a postcode jobsearch and put in radius of 20 miles jobs are coming up the other side of the uk, which is way more than 20 miles!
When i do get jobs up they are not saying whereabouts they are - so i am applying blindly (one i applied for says it was mid bham...when infact i found out after i applied it was hertfordshire :(
I applied for a job yesterday..My email was returned unable to send email address did not exist.
All this is reducing my chances of getting employment and must be with others! The geography is appalling and its very worrying as you do not know who you are sending your cv to (i have removed my personal info but obviously my phone number and email address (which since adding my cv to ujm site i have been getting an awful lot of loan and insurance spam ads mainly on my phone but also on my email)
I had a word with my local job center and they say its down to the employers to put their own job ads on!
I really don't feel safe with this at all...but if i don't use it my job chances will have to rely on newspapers and ad hoc internet searches alone.
Surely something must be able to be done about this dangerous way of searching for a new job? I know this site has pull in issues like this, even if its just to get the dwp to make employers put all information on instead of "company confidential! and "mid" as an area so we can at least see they are real jobs from real companies
I must add i have my settings on private and i have not clicked the permission box.

  • I found this out this morning too.

I didn't know that everything had changed over from the old J/C website & job hunting has now become a nightmare.

This morning, following the information on the page i put my local area in & had other area's coming up. Ie London, Manchester & cardiff.

Also, I too have been contacted from loan companies since this morning via email. I assumed that it was coming from else where, But looking closer, it seems they are from the dwp job site.
    Future goals:
    Become debt free.
    Beat Depression.
    Be happy & healthy
  • I have emailed them about concerns etc, just before christmas, but they havent replied.
Its very very very wrong, but seems we have no choice after all its the dwp :(
  • I've got the same problem. I live in Leicester and it has recommended jobs that are based in Derby, Birmingham, Peterborough, somewhere in Norfolk, Stratford Upon Avon and Sheffield and yesterday it surpassed itself by recommending a job in London. These places are all, supposedly, within 20 miles of Leicester.

I've also come across two jobs that have no way of applying for them - there is no "apply" button, no email address and no way of finding out who the company is.

I'm not getting any loan advertisements but I am getting job alert emails from sites I've never heard of and have never registered with which I am very reluctant to open which I am now assuming have come in a similar fashion to the loan emails.

Also whatever I do the Universal Jobmatch won't send me any email alerts despite them all being set up correctly.
  • scince the new job site came out ive applied for a lot less jobs, the old site was tons better,
  • Its a hindrance, annoyance and invasion of privacy! iv just recieved yet another 2 loan txts (i applied or 9 jobs off dwp yesterday)...I cant see how this site can benefit anyone who is seriously looking for a job!
Perhaps they think by hindering jobseekers, by geographical incompetance or other means, then thats more sanctions on benefits therefore saving money!
This needs to be addressed, surely there must be someone who is taking note of whats happening here....i feel my rights to search for a job and my rights to keep my data private (unless applying for a real job vacancy) is being compromised

    Well that explains things.

I posted a job for the company I work for, it's only 15 hours weekly but we've had applicants from 40 miles away applying!

    Crazy.
  • DO NOT TOUCH this site with a bargepole..

Only if forced (mandated) to do so, make up a bare bones cv, and a separate email address. use Joncentre tel no if needed too..

The issue about jobs coming up in the search that are more than the selected distance was an issue with the old site. Was very annoying looking for jobs and you find 1 that is more than the 10 miles you selected.
