Tv is multicoloured on one side

Unplugged my 42inch LG LCD tv the other day, plugged it back in and it sparked... Since then, the left half my screen has been multicoloured/black. If i leave it for 30mins or so, the picture starts to appear on the left side in the form of flickering like it has poor reception. After a bit longer, the picture finally becomes restored, and remains fine until i turn it off and back on again.
Any ideas? The sound is fine... pressing the menu button does nothing, it brings the menu up but cannot see half of it as the screen is blocked off

Sounds like the backlight for the display has failed in one area. No idea of the cost of repair, or if its practical to do so.That gum you like is coming back in style.0
