I would like to remove the central pillar and mount a garage door further forward if possible?
Can i achieve this and if so what sort of door would i need if it wont cause any issues?
I drew a basic image to illustrate how it is now.
Thanks

What, if anything, does the central pillar support?
Is removing the pillar worth doing in terms of additional space or ease of driving a car inside the garage?
Moving the existing doors forward will be far cheaper than a new probably bespoke door.
I have a similar situation but with a single garage only. I am considering moving the door forward to gain a bit more space inside. That will allow us to store more stuff in the area in front of a garaged car.0 -
You'll need to take advice on the central pillar.
Is there one or two lintels?
Are they wood, steel or concrete?0 -
Yes take advice.
I have a garage where the the builder had a standard detail on all developments of a contiuous timber double beam above the doors. This means my centre pillar is not load bearing0 -
Luckily there is 1 steel lintel spanning the entire width of the double garage. The pillar is just built to divide and does not support the lintel.
It should be easily removed but i will seek advice.
Moving the current doors forward i dont think is an option, they are currently fixed to the inside on a guided roller. If it was even possible to mount the rollers on the inside edges of the pillars i would loose quite a bit of width for each single, but it would be the cheapest solution.
I was hoping you could get some type of slim line guided roller door, similar to what you can get in kitchens now and typically found in office cabinets (those plastic grey things that you push up instead of 2 doors).0 -
I believe the rollershutter door has to be mounted on the inside of the garage reveal as when the door is rolled up, it needs more room, so it rolls inside of the garage as such.
If it was fitted on the outside of the reveal it wouldn't be able to roll up.
