Do I need an electrician or a gas engineer?!

If anyone can help, I'd be most grateful.

Woke up to no hot water this morning and found that the manual timer on the boiler hadn't moved since yesterday afternoon...about the time the general maintenance chap fitted a new replacement room thermostat (old one was out of sync on temp due to it being moved some years ago).

Re-set everything from scratch to ask it for heat and water - still nothing.

Changed fuse in wall socket - still nothing.

So I have no power to the boiler and I'm not sure if I need an electrician or a boiler engineer. Can anyone advise please? Or is anyone has a clue what the problem could be, please share!

Incidentally, phoned chap this morning who replaced the thermostat yesterday, who says (after I explained the problem) he meant to tell me there was no power to the wires of the thermostat once he took it off and he has no idea what the problem is. Hmmm...was working fine before his visit

Any ideas gratefully received.

you need an electrician, the boiler man will just tell you you need a new one, the spark might open it up and try and see if it is repairable.

Any decent heating engineer will be able to sort out the problem for you. Electricians, in my experience, do not like heating systems!

The other issue is that in order to exchange the timer for a new one your gas supply needs to be isolated as a safety precaution, something that only a heating engineer can do.

Thanks everyone. Pleased to say the problem is resolved...the thermostat had been wired in incorrectly and was blowing the fuse. After a few tests, it then appeared the new thermostat was faulty anyway. Shop exchanged it, new one fitted and everything now working at no extra cost as the maint guy came back to see if he could sort. Phew!

    what a load of pooo

I do not do gas, but I do central heating controls. I don't touch any internal
gas boiler stuff, with the exeption of checking outputs / voltages on the PCB.

I wasn't guessing I needed a timer replaced on my boiler I phoned an electrician and he told me I had to get it done by a gas fitter which I did, I posted what I knew in good faith.

I don't doubt it. You do not however need to isolate the gas supply to fit one. You also do not need to be Corgi registered to turn the gas off at the meter - anyone can turn a handle!
