Hi, I'm currently using WEP encryption on my router's wireless setup (I know, I know), and I want to change it to the more secure WPA, although my router supports the following versions of WPA:
- WPA-PSK
- WPA2-PSK
- WPA-PSK+WPA2-PSK
- WPA-802.1x
- WPA2-802.1x
- WPA-802.1x+WPA2-802.1x

WPA2-PSK (AES if available in preference over TKIP)0

The "802.1x" options all require an authentication server for future reference.0

Sorry to jump in here, but I am a total numpty on techi stuff. Just looked at my connection on here and it says WPA-PSK and then 802.1g Should I change this for more security and erm, how do I do it please? I have wireless to my laptop, netgear router with my desk top.0

The first is the security setting; the second is the 'speed' of your wireless connection. Determining whether a change is necessary would require that we know the capabilities of both the router and any devices currently connecting to it.0 -
Many thanks but Im a bit lost already (told you I was a numpty) I have a netgear router and talktalk broadband, a desk top pc and a laptop which I use wireless. Im also getting a smart tv this weekend.0

The model numbers of the router and laptop should help.0

hethmar - I've got a Netgear DG834G router (if you look on the underside of the router there should be a large label showing a picture of the router, and the version is underneath that), which was the router sold by Carphone Warehouse when I joined TalkTalk.0
