Classical Guitars sub £150. Suggestions

Options
Hi all,
I've been playing guitar for a while. Have an electric and an electro-acoustic guitar. However, after discovering lickbyneck.com and the solo arrangements on it...

Well... I've now decided I'd like a classical guitar.

Having no knowledge of the 'classical guitar market'. I've decided to come to you trusty MSE individuals for advice.

So any highly reccomended guitars, in a budget of about £150. Like i said I don't know how much you'd pay for a decent classical guitar so I'm unsure if £150 is even enough.

Thanks in advance,
Fazza82

It depends on how you define "decent".

A few years ago I bought a Yamaha C-40, second hand but in as new condition, for about £40 on Ebay. Cash on collection so I didn't pay p&p or risk damage in transit.

It is a fairly budget classical guitar but I like it. It has a nice mellow sound, has good intonation and stays in tune reasonably well.

Here are some new and used currently listed on Ebay.

Something like that might be a good inexpensive introduction to Classical guitars. If you don't like it or decide you don't enjoy playing classical, you can easily resell it and get most of your money back.

I can't advise on more expensive alternatives as I don't really know enough about them.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy whatever you buy.

I'm not a trained classical guitarist but I, too, am a big fan of Yamaha for good value classical guitars. From memory, I paid something in the region of £80 (new) some 4 or 5 years ago for my current Yamaha classical and am more than pleased with it.

I've had a few Yamaha classicals, and am confident enough in the quality of what I have bought, that I will order them online, without trying them first. Of course, if I were paying, say, £300 upwards, then I would want to play it before committing myself.

My advice would be, don't pay too much - if classical is to your liking, then you will enjoy upgrading to a higher quality (ie. more expensive) instrument at the appropriate time in the future. All you need right now is an instrument that will stay in tune and has a playable neck.

    Good luck.

Like previous users, I also have Yamaha. Mine is F310. I had it ever since it was recommended to me by my teacher several years ago. Have tried other ones since then but always went back to my yamaha. Good guitar.

    YAMAHA it is!
    Thanks :D

I'll have a look into a bunch of them and come back with results.. Narrow it down to one or two, see what your opinions are.
