Advice, please

This may be a silly question but do you have to have a satellite dish to record using a hard drive recorder?

My tv (quite old) has freeview and I thought I might buy a hard drive recorder but am not sure if it will work or not without a dish?

You don't need a satellite dish; the recorder will have its own tuner inside for one or the other. You'll likely not need to worry about the extra expense unless you mistakenly buy a Freetime box.
