I'm with Hazzanet - keep for 6 months, then shred. I also reconcile them with statements using Money Manager. But I keep a close eye on what I'm spending, and even work out figures for how I'm doing at 'month end'. It's a way of making sure I don't spend more than I earn....
  • The same as posts 11 and 12 but only for a few weeks or less. Then shred.
  • Keep them until reconciled then shred - max 8 weeks.

And mistakes DO happen so its always been a worthwhile exercise.

    Can't be too careful!
  • Why are people shredding normal credit card receipts??

They don't typically contain your name and address and never DOB, CVV, PIN or anything more than the last four digits of the card number. I can understand if your name and address were on there...hmmm...but for the average card receipt I can't see the worth to a fraudster. Am I missing something?
I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

    I love my job

I shred anything that has any personal information on it no matter how incomplete. I don't know how fraudsters get their info but they're not getting any out of me.

If for a large purchase (fridge, telly, ipod, type of stuff) I keep them with the receipts/warranties etc, otherwise once they are on my statement and all is well, I shred them, then the shreddings get recycled.
