May be of interest to readers here. (I tend not to visit the MSE phones etc boards - too many rants on them)
BT have launched a smart talk App which enables you to make calls from your mobile as if you were at home paying the home phone line/call rate from BT - Will probably be useful for those abroad paying high mobile rates etc esp' PAYG.
Works on both wi-fi and mobile data connection.
No, you cannot answer an incoming call to your home number with this App.

I've just been using this on my iphone and it works brilliantly.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly. Forum Ambassadors are not moderators and don't read every post. Bearing in mind the expression "if something looks too good to be true then it probably is" I just want to double check.
I have downloaded the app and tested it, works great.
I am off to Florida in a couple of weeks and my understanding is that as long as I use free wifi (3g will be disabled anyway) and my home BT contract is unlimited calls 24/7, then I will not be charged to call back to the UK using this app?0 -
I understand it depends on your package, so if (for example) you receive free evening and weekend calls to UK landlines so long as you're calling a UK landline any minutes used will come out of your 'free' allowance and therefore cost you nothing.
One thing to be aware of is, I believe, the call has to be made during the evening on 'UK time' rather than local US time.0 -
That was my understanding exactly, so thanks for confirming.
We are currently on the 24/7 call package, so time differences won't matter. Just have to make sure 3G disabled, so no nasty surprise data charges.0
