Hello,
I would really appreciate any help urgently on this matter. Windows XP would not boot in anything other than safe mode, so i did a restore to the latest restore point before the problem happened, which was Monday. The problem occurred thursday. I had created files between Monday and thursday that were located in C:\Documents and Settings\Myname\Afolder. There was another restore point that was created today, but that must have been when i was in Safe mode for a few minutes.
I can only assume the files were on the drive and not managed, but when I came out into Windows proper after system restore, I found that the name of the folder I had my files were in had the number 2 appended at the end, so Afolder2, and there were files missing.
Please, does anyone know how to find the files that were changed by System restore, as it surely must keep a record? I must find those files, as it was coursework that I was working on and the missing file is one of the parts of the program I was developing.
Thanks. It's Windows XP.

System restore (as I'm sure you know) does not touch user-created documents. I suspect that your files are still present, but are 'lost' somewhere on your drive.
You can use the built-in Search facility to scan your drive for all files of the type that are missing (e.g. all .doc files), or use one of the tools mentioned in this thread (with care) -

Thank you so much for those links which I'll take a look at now. I also notice it's renamed some of my folders, oh but I already mentioned that, sorry then. Just woke up after worrying all through the night and only 2 hours sleep.
