Q:\Bank Fraud? HJT Log and Taking Ownership

Options
Hi,

I tried posting last week but couldn't as my machine wouldn't load web pages or if it did it would only be after 5-10 minutes and links wouldn't work. the difficulty began immediately after downloading the massive Windows/MS update on 09/01/13.

I discovered that MSE had quarantined something (virus? trojan? worm? or what?) that was titled something like http:Q:\Bank Fraud. Used the MSE facility to remove it. I thought that would resolve the issues but it didn't. I did not use any of my financial/bank pages for fear of there being something hidden from me.

Over three-four days I cleaned up many things including the registry issues found (using CCleaner), deleted lots of bits that seemed superfluous and/or had been downloaded in the days beforehand. And of course kept scanning and updating as necessary.

In the early hours of Saturday the laptop began working completely normally again and has continued to ever since.

Has anyone else encountered anything like this please?

I have now been onto my online banking and changed certain passwords, just in case.

Reading through the board I can't find any mention of this so thought I'd post and see if anyone else had seen this virus and/or encountered difficulty after downloading the 09/01/13 update please?

I have just uninstalled Java as I don't see the use of it at the moment.

Here is my latest HJT and I would be very grateful if you could advise whether there are any other things that should be uninstalled, deleted or disabled please? I'm particularly aware that there are a large number of Toshiba progs but I don't know which I can get rid of to reduce bloat. Also appear to be some missing files which is most likely my blind deleting! Thanks in advance.

Ooops, forgot to ask, how can I ake control of certain programs/program folders please? I discovered many are protected unless I have permission from the creator owner or trustedinstaller. Does that make sense to anyone please?

    Thanks again in advance,

Was the MSE detection something like this?

    https://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/threat/encyclopedia/entry.aspx?Name=TrojanSpy%3AHTML%2FBankfraud.Q&ThreatID=-2147374417

Go into MSE's History > all detected items. You should find the detection there. You can highlight it and then CTRL + C to copy it, then paste it in a reply here.

    Then post a DDS log.

Download DDS from the link below and save it to your desktop:

    Link

After you've downloaded it and saved it to your desktop:
    • Double click DDS to run it.
    • When it's finished, DDS will open two logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop.

Copy & paste the contents of just DDS.txt for now and post it here (you may need to split the log over separate posts)

    Thanks waddler_8,

That looks like it on the MS link. I removed it through MSE and it doesn't now show up in MSE>History>All detected items. I just remember that it stated bank fraud and had a capital Q in it too.

    Here's what DDS provided:

That all looks ok but I would update Adobe Reader (Open Adobe Reader > Help > Check for updates)

    http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb13-02.html

Without knowing exactly what MSE detected (It will have been logged in the event logs) it's hard to say if it was a bonafide detection or a possible false positive or not. I have found MSE to be very good as far as false positives go with very few mistakes being made.

If you want, for piece of mind:

Download aswMBR and save it to your Desktop.

    http://public.avast.com/~gmerek/aswMBR.exe
    • Right click aswMBR.exe & choose "Run as Administrator" to run it.
    • Click YES to the prompt to download Avast virus definitions
    • When the virus definitions have downloaded, click the Scan button.
    • Wait till the scan reports "Scan finished successfully"
    • Click Save log & save the log to your desktop.
    • Click OK
    • Two files will be created, aswMBR.txt & a file named MBR.dat
    • Click EXIT.
    • Copy & Paste the contents of aswMBR.txt into your next reply.
Don't click to fix anything, just post the log

    Thanks waddler_8,

I'll sort out acrobat this evening.

That is very positive about MSE so thank you for that. I won't do the other scan tonight but will do it in the morning.

Thank you very much for your help, much appreciated.

    All the best,

    No problem.

The MSE detection should be logged here unless CCleaner's deleted it:

    "C:\programdata\microsoft\microsoft antimalware\support\MPdetection-mmddyyyy-hhmmss.log"

    Where:

    mm - month
    dd - day
    yyyy - year

    hh - hours
    mm - minutes
    ss - seconds

    EG: MPdetection-01132013-223524.log

Detection made at 22:35:24 secs on the 13th of Jan 2013.
