Emails self deleting on windows mail

My pc is windows vista. I'm using wondows mail version 6.0.6000.16386.
This morning something very strange is going on. Every e-mail I receive and open and then read disappers from my inbox as soon as I close it. They are no where to be seen in deleted, or junk or in box. The replies are appearing in sent items. I thought I was making it up but I watched closely and it happened again and again. I've shut down and had the updates done and then switched back on but its still happening. Maybe its a setting somewhere that says delete once read? Any clues anyone? ! TIA.

Don't know how that got filtered in that way but now I've changed it to show all everything is back.
