Disagreement with vendor about exchange-completion
Comments
-
Thanks to everyone for all the helpful replies!

I think I'll just call him and agree to the six week period. Just to reiterate, I never wanted the vendor to sign anything before exchange, that would be silly, but thought it would be helpful if they had at least viewed etc, which it sounds as if they haven't done.
Either way, six weeks isn't that long and I'll just have to deal with it!
Thanks again,

After all of the effort to get this far I would agree to exchange now and leave it 6 weeks. Like you, I had failed purchases, I payed for 4 surveys in total on 4 different places, did around 2000 on failed purchases and 6 weeks is better than another failed purchase. Annoying you will need to pay for 6 weeks buildings insurance when not living there though!
Good luck!0 -

Very true about the buildings insurance, but I guess some people have longer periods between exchange and completion so it could be worse!0 -
Just a word in defence of the vendor. Until you exchange, all you've done is say 'Hello Mr Vendor, I think I might like to buy your property for £xxx" and you can change your mind right up to exchange.
Any vendor would be foolish to financially tie themselves into to another property on that basis..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -

I completely agree with you Errata

Buying a house is a rubbish and stressful exercise. Once you've exchanged you will feel so much better and positive about it all because there is no scope for any more moving the goal posts - you will know where you stand and you will be able to make plans for moving in.
And once you are in your new home, all this frustration will rapidly become a distant memory.
Enjoy your new house
